- Abstract
As part of the recent related Sars-Cov-2 pandemic, the problem of scarcity of resources in healthcare and how to allocate them on an ethical as well as an economic / managerial basis has been highlighted in Italy. The National Bioethics Committee (NBC) in its opinion of April the 8 2020 recognized the clinical criterion as the most appropriate point of reference even in triage situations in pandemic emergencies, deeming any other criteria "of selection [...] ethically unacceptable". This is said in response to the recommendations of clinical ethics of the SIAARTI Scientific Society, issued in March 2020, in which it is hypothesized the introduction of an age limit for the access to ICUs of CoViD patients, as resources became more scarce and hospitals' intensive wards was at the highest levels of saturation. However, if all the debate that has been generated at various levels (professional orders, public opinion, institutional bodies ...) will be proactive, a path of meaning must be recovered. A suggestion in this sense comes from the ethics of transplants. In the world of donation and transplants, in fact, the decision on how to allocate resources is made daily by carrying out even strong value choices, in compliance with ethical, deontological and legal principles, without risking the drift of the inclined plane.
