- Abstract
The article introduces Aprepitant, a neurokinin-1 receptor blocker. Aprepitant has been shown to inhibit both acute and delayed emesis induced by cytotoxic chemotherapeutic such as cisplatin by blocking substance P. It states that the drug is given orally and its oral bioavailability is about 60 to 65%. It shows that the addition of aprepitant to standard regimen of ondansetron and dexamethasone provides superior antiemetic protection in patients with cancer, receiving high dose cisplatin based chemotherapy. Details on the mechanism of action, pharmacokinetics, side effects, and interactions are included.
