- Abstract
This article discusses the introduction and use of the canapé, a piece of furniture made popular among the bourgeoisie and nobility in 18th century Burgos, Spain. The author comments on the influence of French design on the canapé, the social conditions in Spain at the time, as well as the concept of modernity introduced into society during this era. He considers the popularity of luxury, elegance, and high style within the household and among these social classes in Spain, exemplified by the canapé.
