- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between environmentalism and West German Protestantism around 1980. The reworking of biblical literalism to reflect the growing public interest in environmentalism is described along with the influence of Native American animist religious ideology on the practices of West German Protestantism, the integration of environmentalism and native religious practices is characterized as forming a counterworld, and alleged struggles to position non-Christian and non-European within the church's European values structure are examined.
