- Abstract
The article presents a study that compared the similarities and dissimilarities between the morality concept of Cheng in Confucian scholar Zhu Xi's understanding with that of Japanese philosopher Yamago Soko. Topics include the promotion of the concept of Cheng in Japan by Soko and fellow philosopher Ito Jinsai, the internal and specific emotion as the basis of Yamago's understanding of Cheng, and emotion as the characteristic of Japanese ethics.
