The article highlights anti-Semitism in the lower Hudson Valley, New York in 1943 and the role of corporate lawyer Arthur Garfield Hays as a leading advocate of civil liberties in American society. Topics discussed include the anti-Semitic experiences of Max and Lillian Fuchs in June 1943, contributions of Hays to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the views of Hays on the importance of minority groups supporting each other in their struggles for equal rights.
