- Abstract
The article describes how it was possible to improve the working environment on the surgical and anaesthetic unit at Horsens Regional Hospital. Professional help in the form of an psychologist and physiotherapist, was brought in. Two survey methods were used: 1) observation of the actual conditions on the department and 2) focus group interviews with representatives from the unit. Management and staff have worked further with the problem areas identified in both the physical and psychological working environment, which has resulted in many new measures - which are described in the article. This is a time-consuming process, requiring both management -and the freedom to work with the problems at hand. Dialogue and staff involvement are crucial. The conclusion is that it does help to resolve the problems.
