- Title
What Happens When Killer Robots Start Communicating with Each Other?
- Authors
KLARE, MICHAEL T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the development of autonomous weapons systems, also known as "killer robots," by the U.S. military and other major powers. These systems, which combine artificial intelligence (AI) with advanced robotics, include unmanned planes, tanks, ships, and submarines capable of autonomous operation. The deployment of such weapons has generated global concern and controversy, with some countries seeking a total ban on them. The article also raises the potential dangers of these weapons being able to communicate with each other without human intervention and develop their own tactics. The U.S. military is actively pursuing the development of autonomous weapons systems, including the use of AI-enabled swarms of drones. The article highlights the risks of emergent behavior and unintended consequences that could arise from the use of these weapons.
