- Title
Disruption of Fas-Fas Ligand Signaling, Apoptosis, and Innate Immunity by Bacterial Pathogens.
- Authors
Caulfield, Adam J.; Lathem, Wyndham W.
- Abstract
The article examines Fas-Fas ligand (Fas-FasL) signaling and how it induces host cell death by apoptosis. Topics discussed include the stimulation of inflammatory host defenses in response to many bacterial pathogens, the ability of Yersinia pestis to prevent apoptotic cell death, and the ability of the enteropathogenic Echerichia coli to antagonize Fas signaling thorugh effector secretion.
