Studies the vertical structure and evolution of mid-latitude westerly waves during sustained convective outbreaks over South Africa. Revelation of an eastward advance of a large amplitude Rossby wave from anomalies in the geopotential height, temperature and meridional wind; Dominance of the ridge trailing the Rossby wave; Collapse of the wave during the decay phase.
