- Title
Written in Blood: The Art of Mothering Epic in the Poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
- Authors
Taylor, Olivia Gatti
- Abstract
The article discusses the connections between mothering and poetry in the poems of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. In "Aurora Leigh," Barrett Browning populates her poem with female characters, all mothers, or, like the poem's title character, mothers by virtue of "developing the human soul" through art. In her later poem, "Mother and Poet," Barrett Browning deepens the metaphor to show that both children and art can be revolutionary, and that mothers are made by this agents of the revolution.
