Beatings in Grade School.
Abstract
A summary is presented of the article "Sex role stereotypes and causal attributions for success and failure in motor performance," by S. E. Iso-Ahola. Elementary school students participated in same-sex and opposite-sex races with the outcomes set. Boys who lost to boys were more likely to attribute their failure to their opponent's skill than when they lost to girls. The article argues that such cognitive distortions are dangerous.
