- Authors
Wagner, M. D., Jonathan F.
- Abstract
This article discusses the Prague Socialist Olympic Games of 1934. These Olympics were notable because they were entirely the work of the Socialist Party. Taking place after the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany, the Prague Socialist Olympics were also the first international sporting competition taking place with a true imminent threat of National Socialism on the world landscape. Socialist history in Europe is also discussed, leading up to the 1934 Olympics, as well as Socialist views on sports and athletic programs. The author notes that sports and sporting competitions helped spread National Socialism.
