- Authors
Smart, Marie
- Abstract
The article presents literary criticism of "The Old Tune," an English translation by Samuel Beckett of Robert Pinget's radio play "La Manivelle". Particular focus is given to the play's historical context in the Nouveau Roman literary movement of postwar France. According to the author, the significance of the play is derived from Beckett's complex relationship with the literary New Wave. Topics discussed include Beckett's relationship with technology and his play "Happy Days".
