- Abstract
The text is a review of the book "Empirical evidences and theoretical assumptions in functional linguistics" edited by Elissa Asp and Michelle Aldridge. The book is a collection of work presented at the Empirical Evidence and Theoretical Assumptions colloquia, focusing on the sessions held in 2016 and 2017. The aim of the colloquia was to foster discussion and debate about the core tenets of systemic functional linguistics (SFL) and incorporate a wider range of empirical methods into SFL work. The review highlights the chapters that discuss neurolinguistic evidence, eye-tracking, keylogging, translation processes, cohesion, and theoretical assumptions within SFL. The reviewer praises the book for introducing new methodologies and perspectives to SFL research and recommends it for those interested in the future directions of SFL.
