- Title
Schizophrenia: Incriminating genomic evidence.
- Authors
Lupski, James R.
- Abstract
The article reports on the findings of a research conducted by a team led by H. Stefansson, that showed genome-wide studies of thousands of patients can identify new loci. It states that the researchers hypothesizes that copy-number variations (CNV) that confer schizophrenia may be under negative-selection pressure. Based on their observations, the researchers found three genetic deletions that were nominally associated with schizophrenia and psychosis in which these CNVs ranged in size from about 400 kilobases (kb) to 1.6 megabases (Mb).
