- Abstract
This article analyzes the small city and urban worlds as a strategy to disenchant the indigenous Tuxá world. We appropriate different concepts to operate an interpretation of the city as a signifier that impacts the way of seeing and living of the Tuxá in Rodelas, in the countryside of Bahia. The flooding of the city and the construction of an integrated new Rodelas and new indian urban village, operated an attempt of distancing the indigenous from the regime dos encantados. Efforts for assimilation/integration, permanently revitalized by agents within the State throughout historical processes in Brazil, subsidized our examination, allowing us to point out discursive structures and political actions sustained on development and progress, which agenciated, in the 1980s, the construction of the Itaparica dam and some of its impacts on the indigenous. Although victorious, it didn't completely suppress the Tuxá, who resist and reaffirm themselves in a new territoriality.
