- Abstract
This article analyzes movements in sport as moving images. By their visual aspect, these movements preserve emotions and experiences that are related to it. In the course of sporting events, we can observe a dramatic structure through which the social and affective facets of a community are made recognizable. And it is this dramatic aspect that is taken into account in the representations of sport in mythical and epic tales. The categories of classical aesthetics are to be found in the history of sporting movements and in their narrative representations. In the modern world, sporting events are considered'as representations of economical and political competitions. The epic tales of modernity transform the middle-class bourgeois' existence of the winner into an almighty heroic figure. The style of sporting movements, which expresses the relation of the athlete with its own self and with the members of his community, is another aspect for which contemporary society finds an interest.
