- Title
Tumorigenesis: Taking an alternative route.
- Authors
Seton-Rogers, Sarah
- Abstract
The article discusses the polycomb group (PcG) gene BMI1, which is required for proliferation of both differentiated cells and adult stem cells. It reports that the BMI1's oncogenic function has been attributed primarily to repression of the CDKN2A locus which encodes the tumour suppressors INK4a and ARF. It discusses the research on BMI1 by Maarten van Lohuizen and his colleagues which determines whether the same was true for BMI1-dependent tumorigenesis.
