- Abstract
In this phenomenological study, researchers interviewed mental health professionals (MHPs) to explore why and how they use mindfulness, and to discover perceived benefits of integrating mindfulness practices in clinical work. These findings reveal that MHPs appreciate the flexibility of using mindfulness in their work, see it as a foundation for wellness, self-care and burnout prevention, and strive to gain expertise in mindfulness. Many did not see themselves as experts, however, and were overly modest about their efforts. In all, MHP's found mindfulness practices to be an integral part of professional practices congruent with those valued in sound, ethical MHP operations.
