- Authors
MACCORMICK, AUSTIN H.
- Abstract
The article discusses the provisions which existed for the correction of youthful offenders including arrests and detention, sentencing and probation in the U.S. during the year 1942. It analyzes why do the correctional system of the nation fail to correct large poportion of the young offenders. It describes the U.S. Department of Justice as a system where probation, parole and prisons are coordinated by the fact that they are all within the department and their respective heads are fully cooperative with each other. It cites the example of Michigan and New Jersey where probation is still the function of the courts. It further also mentions the U.S. Youth Correction Authority Act.
