- Abstract
This article is an interview with Thomas F. Broden, an American researcher who has focused on discussing and developing the work of French semiotician A.J. Greimas. Broden studied French in college and became interested in Greimas' semiotics through his studies in structuralism. He studied with Greimas himself in Paris and has continued his research on Greimas' work. The interview discusses the evolution of semiotics over time and mentions the concept of "black boxes" in semiotics, which are areas that still need further investigation and development. Broden also mentions the progress made by Greimas' collaborators and fellow researchers in filling these gaps in semiotics. The text discusses the work of Jean-Marie Floch and his contributions to visual semiotics. Floch, a student of Greimas, focused on analyzing visual images and developed strategies and concepts for visual studies. He emphasized the importance of studying figures in images and provided detailed descriptions of visual features. Overall, Floch's work offers valuable insights into the analysis of visual images within the framework of Greimas' semiotics. The text discusses the work of Greimas and his contributions to semiotics. It mentions that Greimas focused on the verbal aspect and developed a construct to describe it, but there was a lack of a similar construct for
