- Abstract
This article analyses the relations and support that Pedro Calderón de la Barca conferred on the Fernández de Madrigal lineage, belonging to the small Segovian-Salmantine nobility, in order to promote their insertion in a fickle court affected by political tensions in the times of Philip IV and Charles II. I have tried to study how, through the polisynodial system of the monarchy, the attainment of the prestigious habit of knighthood of Santiago, the ecclesiastical career and the festive courtly world, both families fostered a dynamic and collective social ascent characterised by endogamy and solidarities. The multiple spheres of sociability in which the Fernández de Madrigal family coincided with the playwright himself attest to the durability of the connections that united them.
