- Abstract
Film increasingly gains importance in foreign language teaching, as it offers students the 8 opportunity to develop language skills and intercultural competence, creativity and imag- • ination, and it is also a meaningful determinant for learning motivation. However, even in educational institutions which are well equipped with technical apparatus, films have still not been successfully integrated in the teaching process, mostly because teachers are not aware of multiple usefulness of film implementation, and they often do not even possess adequate media-didactic competence, so that the education potential of film mostly remains deficiently used. In order to use the huge educational potential of films, teachers should get familiar with the media worlds of children and youth and acquire adequate didactic knowledge, in order to successfully integrate film in foreign language teaching. In this paper the reasons for film implementation have been listed in accordance with the goals of foreign language teaching (why?), advice and recommendations have been offered for choosing an adequate film (what?), as well as principles and strategies of processing a film in teaching (HOW?). if films are being processed in an adequate way, the usefulness of their implementation is multiple, not only from the aspect of education (acquiring knowledge and skills in the German language, literature and culture), but also from the aspect of pedagogy.
