The article presents the author's definitions for the terms "simplicity" and "meaning" when used as constructs in new product development and brand management and discusses eras of industrial simplicity and function since the technological revolution. Topics include the effect of technological progress such as digital component miniaturization on product development, an ecosystem of software platforms and cloud computing, and the challenges of anticipating consumers' needs and marketing brand affinity.
