- Title
Gemstone mining in Madagascar: transnational networks, criminalisation and global integration.
- Authors
Duffy, Rosaleen
- Abstract
The article discusses Africa's participation in the global economy by examining the illegal mining trade in Madagascar. It describes the role of transnational criminalized networks in the gem trade and how this industry produces exclusion, marginalization, integration and wealth. The author declares that the relationship between the illegal gem trading in Madagascar and global gem production and exchange creates a connection as well as a disconnection between Africa and the global economy.
