- Abstract
The article offers a perspective on the implications of pretreatment change in substance use for social work practice. It highlights the alignment of pretreatment change in substance use with social work practice including enhancement of self-efficacy for change, collaborative approach to formulating treatment goals with clients and strengthening of positive behaviors. Also noted is the potential of awareness of pretreatment change to inform clinical research and organizational policies
