- Abstract
Hakkâri has been under the rule of Sumerians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes, Persians, Romans, Sassanids, Arabs and Turks from the history until today. Local people living in Hakkâri, who are members of the Ertuş, Herki, Jirki, Pinyanishi tribes, keep living. The city has a unique cultural texture with its physical location, climate characteristics and demographic structure. One of the most distinctive features of this culture is colored hand woven fabrics. Shawl weavings, which are less known but have an important place in Hakkâri weavings, were chosen as the subject of the study. The feature of the weaving of the shawl is a hand woven type of belt that the local men wear "Şel Şepik, Şelü Şepik" and the women wear "Kıras, Gıraz Fistan" called "Native Clothing". Although it is possible to find shawl weaving in almost every house in central Hakkâri, Çukurca and nearby villages, today it is still woven by a small number of people. For this reason, it is important to record samples whose production has nearly been about to stop. Fieldwork was conducted in the region for documentation. In this research, interviews were made by determining the people who made, had and used the weaving. Information about the past and present conditions of weaving, raw material, weaving preparation stages and weaving technique were obtained and color, motif and composition properties were examined. In Hakkâri, the central neighborhood, Çukurca and nearby villages, 40 weaving samples were found and it was determined that they had the same characteristics. Since these samples are the same in terms of weaving and design, analysis of 5 weaving from different villages has been made. The difference of the shawls woven in Hakkâri from the samples woven in other places is that the weaving is made with 3 strengths and 3 warrants.
