- Abstract
The article discusses sex determination in mammals. The authors emphasized that when the primary sex determination in mammals occurs in the embryonic gonads, the gonadal sex is established at an earlier time in males than females. They also proposed that the susceptibility of ovary somatic cells to sex reversal arises because genes involved in establishing the female sex fate are also required for its maintenance. The proposed models of sex determination in mammals are also discussed.
