- Abstract
The article discusses the increase of pre-tax profits for New Mauritius Hotels (NMH) of 81% to Mauritius rupees 2.34bn equivalent to $81.4m for the year ending September 30. It is suggested that NMH is one of the largest companies in Mauritius by market capitalisation that operates under the name Beachcomber, with eight hotels in Mauritius and one in Seychelles. Statistics related to the number of tourist arrivals for both countries show 16% growth in 2007. According to the author, Club Mediterranee has chosen Mauritius for the first hotel in its new "Five Tridents" range, with the new club being built on a former sugar plantation in the north west of the island.
