- Abstract
There are many change drivers in the higher education sector all over the world. Universities face the shrinking number of freshmen, after a period of massified demand for higher education; teachers and learners are confronted with the assault of the modern information and communication technologies; internationalisation of the higher education exerts a growing pressure on the management and marketing of study programmes; quality assurance and quality management are becoming core parts of the interface between universities and stakeholders interested in the learning outcomes of each programme, etc. The paper discusses the means and ways applicable by a pro-active university which aims to turn its master's degree programmes into internationally competitive ones: legal and organizational aspects are complemented with elements referring to the use of foreign languages, international literature and more interactive teaching methods. Quality assurance tools which highlight the quality of the training and the relevance of the learning outcomes are also discussed. Finally, the vision of universities related to the concept of student centred delivery of study programmes is approached as a factor of competitive advantage in the context of fierce international competition among universities for the best students.
