- Title
ON SOCIAL COHESION IN GREECE.
- Authors
HADJIYANNI, Andromachi
- Abstract
The article looks at social cohesion in Greece. Particular focus is given to issues surrounding labor, social ties, and national identity. According to the author, economic inequalities, unemployment, and negative attitudes towards immigrants and religious minorities have weakened social cohesion in Greece. It is suggested that forces which have served to bolster social cohesion in the country include family ties, national identity, and women's increased roles in the labour market. Details related to civil society and the Greek welfare state are presented. Other topics include the country's sovereign debt crisis, poverty, and trust.
