- Abstract
The article discusses Chinese artist Wang Keping, who works in Paris, France. The author traces the artists background including his involvement in the 1960s Cultural Revolution in China. his experience working as an actor at the CCTV state-run broadcaster, and his experimentation with wood sculpture in the 1970s. Other topics addressed include his influence from actor Charlie Chaplin, his participation in the 1979 "Stars Art Exhibition" protesting a propaganda exhibition at the China Art Gallery, his 1979 sculpture "Idol" depicting Mao Zedong, and how his artwork changes following his 1980s move to France.
