- Abstract
Ameloblastoma is a benign odontogenic tumor that can originate from the odontogenic epithelium, the enamel organ, remnants of the dental lamina of the epithelium of odontogenic cysts, or from the basal cells of the epithelium of the oral mucosa. It has slow intraosseous growth, has the capacity to be locally invasive, perforating or expanding the bone cortices with a high incidence of local recurrence if it is not treated properly. 87% of the reported cases have been located in the posterior region of the mandible (body, angle and ascending ramus). It has a predilection for the male sex (53.2%) over the female gender (46.7%), it can occur at any age, however, the highest incidence is between 20 and 50 years. The treatment of choice is surgical. The case of a 58-year-old male patient is presented with a diagnosis of follicular solid ameloblastoma that covers the posterior part of the body and the ascending branch treated in a radical way, performing hemimandibulectomy.
