- Abstract
The article discusses the attitudes of migrants of Belgium in reference to the debate on French national identity from 1850 to 1900 in the context of the conclusion of the Franco-German war. Other topics discussed in the article include the suspicion of native French citizens towards Belgian immigrants, an 1889 law regarding nationality and military service in France in reference to its alleged alienation of immigrants, and the advanced industrialization of Belgium in the context of economic measures and the textile industry.
