- Title
LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION PATTERNS AND EARNINGS OF WOMEN CLERICAL WORKERS.
- Authors
Ferber, Marianne A.; Birnbaum, Bonnie G.
- Abstract
The article focuses on labor force participation patterns and earnings of women clerical workers. The authors stressed that most women tend to work part time and/or withdraw from the labor force on one more occasions during their working lives. In their study of clerical women, they found out that women's human capital depreciates significantly, when they are out of the labor market. They also assert that gains from experience prior to the current job and the atrophy resulting from home time were found to be quite modest. Furthermore, it makes no difference whether the interruptions come sooner or later after entering the labor market, except to the extent that number of valuable years with current employer is affected.
