- Abstract
This article discusses oral history and the ways in which cultural and linguistic considerations effect the portrayal of historical events. The author focuses on interviews which were conducted with Russians. Interviews with Russian women conducted by the German television correspondent Gabriele Krone-Schmalz in the Soviet Union during the 1970s are discussed. Additionally, the author discusses interviews conducted in Basel, Switzerland in 2004 by the researcher Anke Stephan on the topic of the perception of female emancipation in Moscow, Russia during the 1970s. The researcher Julia Obertreis examined what it was like to live in the city of Leningrad in the Soviet Union from a political and cultural context and Carola Tischler examined German emigration in the Soviet Union.
