- Abstract
Objective: The aim of this study to determine the sociodemographic characteristics and psychiatric diagnosis and follow-up of treatment in psychiatry clinic.of children and adolescents who abused sexually. Method: The researchers have retrospectively examined the data of the children and the adolescents aged between 0 to 18, who suffered from sexual abuse and were referred to the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of Erciyes University for the forensic evaluation between 01/01/2011-30/06/2014. The characteristics including age, sex, level of education, and type and frequency of abuse, for the psychiatric diagnoses determined by DSM-IV-TR and follow-up status were examined. Results: Cases were composed of 93 (81,6%) girls and 21 (18,4%) boys, the total number of children and adolescents were 114 and these were aged 9 to 16. According to the first psychiatric evaluation children have acute stress reaction (ASR) in 21,1% (n=24), the adjustment disorder in 20,2% (n=23), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in 7% (n=8), depression in 2,6% (n=3), impulsive suicide attempt in 1,8% (n=2). Cases who have psychiatric diagnoses were evaluated in 6th month and 26 cases of these cases were treated. Hovewer, 35 cases who persist of psychiatric diagnoses, only 9 cases have contiuned follow-up psychiatric control in 9th month. Conclusion: In our research, we showed that a few of children and adolescent who abused sexually were contiunued the psychiatric follow-up except for legal process. Therefore, mental health services that provide comprehensive screening, assessment and treatment of mental disorders for these children and adolescents should be developed and this evalution should be compulsory.
