- Abstract
A scenario is proposed for using the model of field ionization of macromolecules to describe the impulse breakdown of polymer dielectrics with allowance for the decisive effect of the space–field inhomogeneity of a real dielectric in the formation of ionization foci and redistribution of carriers. The choice of the determining model parameters, which are the energy gap and the frequency factor, is grounded. The possibility of using these parameters to describe the impulse strength of polymers in the homogeneous and sharply inhomogeneous electric fields is shown by the example of polymethyl methacrylate.
