- Abstract
The article discusses a study which describes the work sampling of on-the-job time allocation of technical men in a research and development organization in East Coast. The study aims to develop a work sampling methodology using a self-recording technique and to compare questionnaire estimates of time allocation with data obtained through work sampling. The study developed a list of job activities to be sampled and questions regarding an individual's activity at a particular moment. Results show that technical employees spend four hours and 51 minutes per day communicating. The study suggests the effectiveness of self-recording work sampling methodology for constructing an objective picture of time allocation.
