- Title
Mistranslation, Unsettlement, La Navidad.
- Authors
BRICKHOUSE, ANNA
- Abstract
This essay discusses the role of Native American translators in the mistranslation of diplomatic and political knowledge transmitted by colonizers, which is highlighted by the abduction of Taino Indians to serve as translators of Christopher Columbus. The author notes that the miscommunication between Columbus and the Natives was reflected in the founding of the colonial settlement La Navidad in the Americas. This led to a questionable account made by the translator about the settlement.
