- Abstract
When liver volume is extremely small in extended hepatectomy and liver transplantation it may result in postoperative hepatic failure. The cause of the hepatic failure is likely associated with the portal hypertension. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a porto-caval shunt after extended hepatectomy and small size for graft liver transplantation. The results indicate that portal pressure is one of main risk factors of hepatic failure by sinusoidal microcirculatory injury in hepatectomy and liver transplantation.
