- Abstract
The study dealt with the definition of advertising, advertising documentation, and a brief history of advertising. It also dealt with the study of advertising documentation as a source of historical information in the last quarter of the nineteenth century AD in Egypt, in the period from 1876: 1901 AD., its application to press advertisements published in Al-Ahram newspaper, and its publication and analysis to extract historical information in various aspects of life in Egypt in this period, political, economic, social, cultural, judicial system, public life, and the extraction of linguistic phenomena in published advertisements. The study concluded with a set of results, the most important of which is the need to index press advertisements because of the information they contain, and the study recommended completing advertising documentation in the twentieth century and beyond. The study used a case study methodology, through content analysis tool, relying on different sources. The study concluded to determine the importance of written press advertisements in writing the history of countries in all fields of knowledge, and to note the importance of indexing these advertisements, especially by the Organization and Information Technology Center based on the indexing of Al-Ahram newspaper in Egypt.
