- Abstract
Distribution coefficients of Ra, alkaline-earth metals (Ca and Sr), and actinides (U and Th) between Dowex-1 × 8 strongly basic anion exchanger and aqueous-methanol solutions of HNO3 were determined in relation to the solution composition. The optimal conditions of Ra concentration and separation from concomitant elements by gradient elution from a single anion-exchange column were determined. A possibility for isolating Ra from solutions with high concentration of alkaline-earth elements, in particular, with the Ca concentration of 10 mg ml-1 was demonstrated. Based on the principle of operation of isotopic generator, a simple and efficient procedure of repeated separation of 223Ra (T1/2 = 11.4 days) at regular intervals for a long time from the parent radionuclide 227Ac (T1/2 = 21.8 years) was developed.
