- Abstract
The U.S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has engaged in a multi-year collaboration with the U.S. Army to support comprehensive energy and water evaluations at large Army campus installations. Initiated to help the Army achieve compliance with facility evaluation requirements dictated by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, this effort has resulted in the evaluation of 530 buildings at 14 installations across the U.S., and the identification of annual savings potential of over 212 billion Btu of energy and 29 million gallons of water. This article highlights the nature of the evaluation process applied at these Army installations and discusses a number of key findings that can be considered for ongoing and future evaluations at Army and other federal agency facilities, particularly those buildings within campus settings.
