- Abstract
The present study was aimed to investigate the efficacy of different botanicals against lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius) in stored paddy. Seeds were treated with different botanicals/chemical viz., Neemazal 10000 ppm @ 0.5% (5 ml/kg), Acorus oil @ 0.5% (5 ml/kg), Acorus powder @ 0.5% (5 g/kg), and Imidacloprid 17.8 SL @ 0.5% (5 ml/kg). Imidacloprid treated paddy seeds were used as a chemical check along with an untreated check. The R. dominica adults were released and kept under ambient laboratory conditions to record their survival, insect damage, weight loss and seed quality parameters like viability and vigour. Treated paddy seeds were found to be effective against R. dominica without any survival and progeny production of lesser grain borer and recorded nil insect damage and no weight loss compared to 5.56 per cent weight loss in untreated control. Paddy seeds treated with botanicals also maintained good seed quality parameters with high germination and seedling vigour up to five months of storage.
