- Abstract
The New River (Nová Řeka) was built in the South Bohemia's Třeboň region by Jakub Krčín of Jelčany in 1584-1586 in order to drain water from the Lužnice River from the Rožmberk Pond to the Nežárka River. The first part of the text follows the entire flow of the river, the changes that were made over the centuries, and the structures directly related to the river. The second part of the article describes the fl oods that afflicted the river and its surroundings as well as some of the modifications made to the riverbed to alleviate these disasters. Historical documents allow a time sequence to be derived, revealing in which places the New River was gradually built.
