- Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare two frequencies of follicular aspiration in vivo (OPU) in Fleckvieh Simmental heifers undertropical conditions. The Cumulus Oocyte Complexes (CCOs) were counted and classified as viable (excellent, good and regularquality) or non-viable for In Vitro Embryo Production (PIVE). Sixteen heifers were used, eight were aspirated at intervals once aweek (T1); and eight at twice-weekly intervals (T2); two sessions of aspiration per animal. An analysis of comparison of propor-tions (Chi square) was carried out to analyze the variables and student's t test was employed with a significance of P <0.05.Considering the effect from frequency of aspiration, T2 presented a significantly higher proportion (57.43%) (P <0.001) of viableCCOs than T1 (42.57). Significant statistical differences were found between treatments for the CCOs of regular quality (P<0.001) and for denudes (P <0.05). The CCOs of regular quality represented 38.73% for the T1 and 61.27% for the T2, whiledenudes were 36.96% for the T1 and 63.04% for the T2. It was concluded that the frequency of aspiration twice a week in Fleckviehheifers under tropical climate conditions, allow us to collect more viable CCOs for PIVE.
