Abstract
The article presents an undergraduate English as a second language (ESL) writing course, titled "First Year Writing for Multilingual Writers," at an urban university in the northeast of the U.S. Topics discussed include creating safe spaces for translingual writing, students' perceptions of translingual writing, and protecting the lingustic rights of multilingual students.
