- Abstract
France has transformed from a homogeneous society to a heterogeneous society with the migrations it has received in the historical process. In France, which is one of the countries that has adopted the principle of secularism in the world and added this principle to its constitution, secularism generally functions to otherize and transform individuals and groups with different religious and cultural affiliations. 2005 Suburb incidents, 11 September 2011, 7 January 2015 Charlie Hebdo Attacks, 13-14 November Paris Attacks, and 2016's Nice Attacks were attributed to Islam and Muslims with a wholesale approach. resulted in a significant increase in the number of participants. In France, where the religion of Islam and Muslim identity are seen as a source of concern, the issue of making changes in the provisions of Islam is sometimes mentioned. Reforming the religion of Islam and trying to reveal a new understanding of Islam that coincides with European values emerge as a result of the anxiety experienced. In this study, it has been tried to be explained with the example of France, where the religion of Islam is tried to be deformed under the name of reform. The main argument of the study is that France is a pioneer in the reform of the religion of Islam compared to other countries in the European continent and that it gradually intervenes in the religious and social lives of Muslims living in France under the name of French Islam, in line with French values. This study aimed to draw attention to the historical process underlying the emergence of the idea of French Islam and especially the steps taken towards the French Islam Project during the presidency of Emmanuel Macron.
